Dr Chong Keng Hua holds a PhD in Architecture. He is currently an Assistant Professor at Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD).

During the course of PhD research, Dr Chong has been a guest researcher at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) and Tsinghua University. He has researched and tutored at National University of Singapore (NUS), and also lectured at Singapore Polytechnic, before he joined SUTD. He was involved in several research projects including traditional Chinese architecture and urban planning, and urban transformation in Singapore. He is the co-author of the book “Form-making in Traditional Chinese Architecture”; his papers were published and presented in many journals and conferences. Currently, he is researching on community-led public space design, a multidisciplinary, bottom-up and curated approach towards the making of urban public space. In dealing with global trend of aging population and urbanization, he is also researching on “social creativity” as a conceptual tool for new sustainable urban planning and design for future “creative aging city”.

Dr Chong has practiced architecture at several architectural offices in Singapore, and was involved in many renowned residential and civic projects. Besides his research and practice, Dr Chong is also an active volunteer. He has served as leader of architectural expeditions to China and Thailand, chief facilitator of design workshops for students, teachers and public, judge of design competitions, as well as guest speaker and moderator at various design forums. He is especially passionate in design that is concerned with social-cultural issues, which has become his motivation to co-found an architectural organization, ReallyArchitecture [re:ACT]. He also serves as a Design Committee member of Singapore Institute of Architect (SIA), and a curator for ‘Hub-to-Hub’ urban intervention project under ArchiFest 2011.
