Rachel Cahill-O'Callaghan
Cardiff University
Summary
I am postgraduate research student at Cardiff Law School. My PhD thesis, under the supervision of Prof. Richard Moorhead and Prof. Jiri Priban, focuses on the Influence of Personal Values on Legal Judgments. The thesis uses techniques developed in Psychology to identify personal values in a legal context and asses the relationship between these values and legal judgments.
I moved into the study of Law from a successful career in academic science in the area of cancer biology and bacterial genetics. I completed my PhD in Science in 1994 at Trinity College (Dublin) and continued my research in Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Boston) and Imperial College (London). My scientific work is widely published and has won several awards. I decided to pursue law and completed my LLB in Cardiff in 2007. Since completion I have worked with Prof. Richard Moorhead in the areas of Contingency Fees and Tort Law.
I am a recipient of the 2010/11 Cardiff Law School Research Scholarship.
