Christopher Shackle

Christopher Shackle studied Persian and Turkish at Oxford, following his BA with a Diploma and BLitt in Social Anthropology. He first came to SOAS in 1966, and was appointed Professor in 1985. He served as Head of Department from 1983 to 1987 and as Pro-Director of SOAS from 1997 until 2003. He is a joint member of the Department of South Asia and the Department of the Study of Religions.
